DiRT (Digital Research Tools) has a new home! Please visit Bamboo DiRT to explore this excellent collection of research tools.

Rather than having to look at the table of contents of journals when they are published, you can request to be notified when new issues are published.  Many publishers provide free access to journal tables-of-contents and/or alerting services.  Some publishers also allow you to receive alerts based on keywords.  Check individual publisher web sites for specific journals not covered by the services listed below. Many more publishers are now providing RSS feeds as well.

Project MUSE covers the fields of literature and criticism, history, the visual and performing arts, cultural studies, education, political science, gender studies, economics, and many others. Project MUSE can provide weekly e-mail notifications when new journal issues are added to the database.

PubCrawler is a free "alerting" service that scans daily updates to the NCBI Medline (PubMed) and GenBank databases.  PubCrawler helps keeping scientists informed of the current contents of Medline and GenBank, by listing new database entries that match their research interests.

 

Intute: Intute is a free British online service providing access to the very best web resources for education and research.
